Strictly’s Adam Thomas admits he ‘struggled’ before show and calls it his ‘therapy’

Strictly’s Adam Thomas has admitted that he "struggled" before joining the show as he called it his ‘therapy’.

Former Emmerdale star Adam, 35, who was diagnosed with arthritis not long before he took part on Strictly Come Dancing, has opened up abut the positive effects that have come with being on the show.

He told STV: “It’s been a little bit of therapy for me doing this show, it really has. I’ve found a bit more self-confidence within myself, I felt like I struggled with that beforehand… which is probably the best thing to come out of this show for me.

"I doubted myself quite a bit going into this show, I never really thought about how much I did doubt myself. Just because I haven’t done it before doesn’t mean I can’t do it and I just feel like I’ve just found an inner confidence.”

The actor went on to say that he is "proud" of himself and his achievements on Strictly so far.

He added: “I feel like when I do that I am just going to feel a lot more confident in myself and that I just need to believe in myself that, just because you haven’t done it doesn’t mean you can’t, and I think it’s just going to help with every aspect of my life."

Adam was recently reportedly "banned" from entering the Strictly studios to rehearse after he was struck down with winter flu.

Strictly Come Dancing bosses were said to be terrified that the illness would spread amongst its cast and crew, which could throw the show into jeopardy.

Adam took to Instagram on Tuesday evening to share an update with his one million followers. Alongside a snap of him lying in bed with his head in his hands, Adam penned: "Of all weeks to be poorly!"

The following morning, Adam said he was using "lots of berocca and coffee" to help him feel better ahead of a day of dance rehearsals with his Strictly partner Luba Mushtuk.

A show source told The Sun: “It sounds silly but the winter flu could wipe out Strictly’s stars – and that would be a nightmare.

“Adam was forced to miss training after being ill and is trying to battle through it now.

“It would be worse if he was to spread it around and being so close with his pro partner Luba means she is more likely to get ill."

The insider went on to say that Strictly has been "banning" the show's celebrities and pro dancers from training if they are struck down with illness, as they don't want it to spread.

However, Adam took to the dancefloor on Saturday evening with partner Luba Mushtuk for their couples choice dance to Backstreet Boys Medley.
