Just before Dexter is seen slipping off the ledge, Matt is heard telling the animal to be careful as ‘it’s kind of sketch’ in the area they were hiking.

The couple – who go by @lovestruckadventures – wrote that they believe their dog’s life was saved by wearing a pack and staying on leash.

In the 22 second clip, Dexter and the couple’s other dog are both seen walking through the forestry near an edge when Dexter begins to slip.

The couple’s other dog stays on top of the ledge while Dexter falls below the greenery and Matt immediately begins trying to save the animal.

Matt struggles for several seconds as he attempts to pull Dexter up while also managing the leash for the couple’s other pup.

Luckily, he finally is able to pull the dark-colored dog back onto land with him where the dog appeared to be unbothered by the entire ordeal.

Commenters on TikTok shared their shock and astonishment at the rescue.

‘Dexter like “Wut bruh? I’m fine. I was just looking.” So unfazed,’ one person joked.

‘Dexter said let’s get off this well beaten path and make our own trail,’ another said.

In another TikTok video, Matt and Josi joked about the incident in a video utilizing a popular TikTok sound.

In that video, they shared the footage of Dexter’s save, writing, ‘Him having one of the most traumatic experiences of his life,’ followed by a clip of Josi dancing.

‘Me dancing around and taking pictures of the flowers just out of view,’ Josi’s portion of the video was captioned.

‘Omggggg so glad y’all are okay!!’ wrote another person.

According to the American Kennel Club, hiking and walking are both great ways to keep dogs active but should be done with guidelines in mind.

The organization recommends always having your dogs wear their ID tags and a ‘sturdy six foot leash.’

Additionally, they saw dogs should be kept on a leash to put other hikers at ease.

‘Unleashed dogs can quickly run off when tracking a scent and may disappear from your view very quickly,’ the American Hiking Society writes.

‘Always use a leash so that you and your dog will finish your hike together safely and can hike again at another time,’ they say.
