Police are investigating the ‘unexplained’ death of a one-year-old baby girl who was ‘taken unwell’ at a popular Scottish holiday park.

Emergency services rushed to Craig Tara Caravan Park, near Ayr, Scotland, around 5.50am on Sunday morning after reports of a baby girl being unwell.

She was taken to University Hospital Ayr but tragically died a short time later.

Police say the death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.

Police are investigating the ‘unexplained’ death of a one-year-old baby girl staying at the park

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: ‘Police received a report of a one-year-old baby girl having taken unwell at an address in the Dunure Road area of Ayr around 5.50am.

‘The baby was taken to University Hospital Ayr where she died a short time later.

‘The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.’

Craig Tara is a popular seaside caravan park – rated 3.5 on TripAdvisor –  which is catered towards families.

The site hosts children’s activities and features an indoor play area. 

A Haven spokesperson said: ‘We are deeply saddened by the tragic news. Our thoughts are firmly with the family and all those affected at this very difficult time. 

‘Haven is supporting the authorities with their investigations, and as this is now a police matter, we are unable to comment further.’
