Drake and SZA Share First-Ever Collaboration, Slime You Out

Ahead of Drake’s eighth studio album “For All the Dogs,” the Canadian-born rapper has recruited SZA for their first in-studio collaboration, “Slime You Out.”

The single was released on Friday morning and is co-produced by Drake and OVO signee Noel Cadastre. The single includes lyrics like “I’m slimin’ you for them kid choices you made,” which provide a clear explanation for the album artwork that the duo shared on Instagram a few days ago.

Drake tagged SZA in an image of Halle Berry covered in green slime at the 2012 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards and the R&B singer subsequently reposted the track’s cover art, affirming rumors that she would be featured on the single.

The collaboration between Drake and SZA has been long awaited by listeners as the pair allegedly used to date. On 21 Savage’s “Mr. Right Now,” Drake rapped “Yeah, said she wanna fuck to some SZA, wait / ‘Cause I used to date SZA back in ’08,” which SZA confirmed via X/Twitter, stating “So it was actually 2009,” affirming that “anybody who really knows me and was around during this time can confirm.. it’s all love all peace.”

In “Slime You Out,” it seems the artists are playing on these rumors, as they seemingly engage in a pointed back-and-forth: “You ain’t ’bout the shit you rappin’ about,” SZA sings, while Drake bites back with “Sayin’ that I’m too guarded ’bout my feelings, who the fuck even asked you?”

The track serves as the first single part of Drake’s eighth studio LP “For All the Dogs,” which is scheduled to drop on Sept. 22. Drake announced that he would be releasing a single from the album during the Austin stop of his current U.S. tour with 21 Savage. “I know y’all excited to hear the album,” he said. “I know it’s, like two weeks out. I’m a drop a song for y’all this week. Yeah, yeah. What a time, what a time.”

Aside from SZA, Drake also hinted at a potential feature from Nicki Minaj at the Detroit stop of his tour on July 8. “Me and Nicki Minaj did our first song together in, like, a really long time. I got a lot of love for her,” he said.

Of his upcoming album, Drake’s managerial team told Variety that “he has been working on this album for a while… as soon as he dropped ‘Her Loss,’ he just kind of kept recording, and we’re waiting for him to finish the work,” he said. “The songs I’ve heard are incredible — and obviously, from a managerial standpoint, it’s a uniquely incredible experience to work with an artist that can be on a tour of this size and still hype the fans up even more by telling them there’s another project on the way.”
