‘Can I go to Bunnings?’: DIY run gets tick under stay-at-home rules

As churches prepare to turn people away this Easter to prevent the spread of coronavirus, a holy place for many DIY enthusiasts will remain open.

With police issuing fines to those who venture outside without a valid reason, some retail businesses – such as Bunnings – continue to welcome customers despite strict rules around social isolation.

Easter weekend is typically a busy time for the hardware giant, and this year promises to be no exception, as people with time on their hands gather up materials for odd jobs around the house.

Authorities say there are only four valid reasons to leave the home: to get essential goods and services, for care and other compassionate reasons, to work or study and to exercise.

So while learning to drive warrants a $1652 fine and social visits from friends or family are banned, what about the weekend tradesperson who wants to paint the walls or fix the gutters while in isolation?

Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Shane Patton told 3AW's Neil Mitchell on Tuesday that visiting a shop was a sufficient reason for being outside, as long as the retail business was not restricted under the Chief Health Officer's guidelines.

"Because Bunnings is open, I can go to Bunnings and buy a can of paint?," asked Mitchell.

"It would seem so at this stage, that's the way it would appear," Mr Patton said.

A search for clarity around what is OK has resulted in authorities being asked about all sorts of hypothetical scenarios, such as fetching firewood, driving to McDonald's or visiting a holiday home.

The problem has been compounded by states having different rules for recreational activities such as golf and fishing.

At a briefing on Monday, Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton expressed frustration about the confusion. "I'm a bit surprised by some of the questions," he said.

"There are only so many times you can say 'If you can stay at home, please stay at home'.

"So to get questions — 'Can I shoot a rabbit at a wedding? 'Can I take my personal trainer here, there and everywhere?' — surprises me. I think people should focus on what they can and should do to reduce transmission now."

Dr Sutton said that shops like Bunnings were allowed to stay open because they sell essential items needed for maintenance or in an emergency.

"They will have some items that are available … that aren't essential," he said.

"They'll be open for people to get them if they absolutely require them but it shouldn't be a free-for-all."

Bunnings is not the only retailer still trading despite the restrictions on social movement. IKEA, JB Hi-Fi, Kmart, Target and Rebel Sport are also keeping their stores open.

In response to the health crisis, Bunnings has taped signs on the floor to indicate a distance of 1½ metres, increased cleaning in stores and provided gloves and hand sanitiser for staff.

"We've had a number of changes in place in stores over the last few weeks as we continue to follow government advice," said Bunnings managing director Mike Schneider.

For those still seeking answers for what is allowed, the Department of Health and Human Services has released a long list of answers to community questions about the stay-at-home order.

Emmerdale: Vinny Dingle's shock romance with Kim Tate explained

EMMERDALE’s Bradley Johnson has hinted that his character Vinny Dingle could be set for a shock affair with the Queen of Home Farm Kim Tate.

But could 18-year-old Vinny really end up getting involved with 61-year-old evil Kim in a bizarre twist? Here’s everything you need to know about Vinny Dingle’s fate on the ITV soap…

Visit our dedicated Emmerdale page for all the latest spoilers, pictures and gossip from the Dales

Are Vinny Dingle and Kim Tate going to have a shock romance in Emmerdale?

Emmerdale actor Bradley Johnson has hinted that his character could be set for romance with the Home Farm Queen Kim Tate

Viewers will know that Vinny has just discovered he was abandoned by his father Paul when he was a baby.

It's possible the news could lead to Vinny having an identity crisis and turning to wise Kim for solace.

Meanwhile, Kim is currently in the midst of a family feud herself that has seen her daughter-in-law Andrea and son Jamie move out of Home Farm and disown her.

Viewers watched Jamie brutally announce he wanted nothing to do with her after it emerged that the matriarch had conspired to have Graham Foster killed.

Given she’ll be feeling pretty lonely, it’s possible Vinny could be her perfect conquest – even if she would eat him alive.

But given Kim's track record of dating murderous men, it seems unlikely she’d go for innocent Vinny.

With Emmerdale yet to speak out about Vinny’s fate on the soap, fans will have to tune in to find out whether there’s a romance with Kim on the horizon.

What has actor Bradley Johnson said about the shock fling?

Bradley told Inside Soap: "I think Vinny's at that age where he thinks he's a bit of a ladies' man, which he probably isn't!"

The Emmerdale actor continued: "He's a bit of a geeky character and we've seen a bit of him fancying Belle.

"However, since Graham's gone, Kim Tate is without a love interest, so Vinny could be her toyboy!"

And the fact that Vinny and Kim would have a 43 year age gap didn't seem to phase Bradley at all.

He added: "I don't think he would be particularly fussy about who he's with, though!"

Who is Vinny’s mystery visitor in Emmerdale?

It looks like a shock fling won’t be the only thing in store for Vinny, as he's set to get a surprise visit from his estranged father Paul in an upcoming episode of Emmerdale.

Mandy is quick to send Paul packing but little does she know he starts lurking in the village shadows and spots Vinny.

Realising Mandy lied to him about his son’s whereabouts, he continues to spy on Vinny in his car as the Dingles celebrate Lydia and Sam’s wedding.

Emmerdale viewers had been trying to get to the bottom of who Vinny was for months after it was revealed that he wasn’t Mandy Dingle’s biological son.

Mandy finally revealed last month that Vinny was the son of her ex-boyfriend Paul, who abandoned them both when Vinny was a baby.

Mandy took it upon herself to look after him, keeping him hidden from social services.

Mandy told the Dingles: “One day he walked away and never came back, two days after Vinny started school. I was no-one, just this random woman that his dad had shacked up with. I had to make a choice – do I become the mum he never had or do I put him into care. The easiest call I’ve ever had to make.”

Vinny started to defend Mandy for her decision: “I spent so many years lying, waiting for a knock on the door from the social because people won’t accept she’s my real mum."

PSG in dramatic Icardi U-turn as they ‘agree to buy striker in £62m permanent transfer’ to replace Uruguay-bound Cavani – The Sun

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN are ready to make a dramatic U-turn by completing the permanent signing of Mauro Icardi this summer, according to reports.

The Argentine, 27, has spent the 2019/20 season on loan at the Parc des Princes from Inter Milan.

It was thought the French side had terminated his contract after his controversial wife and agent Wanda Nara said they wanted to return to Italy.

However, according to Corriere Dello Sport, PSG have changed their tune and now want to exercise the option to buy Icardi at the end of his temporary spell.

He would cost the French champions £62million after the clause was inserted into the loan agreement last summer.

Part of the reason for wanting to keep Icardi is because PSG look set to lose their all-time record goalscorer.

Edinson Cavani almost joined Atletico Madrid in the summer but now is poised to head back to his homeland.

Uruguayan side Penarol – managed by Diego Forlan – are confident of securing Cavani on a free transfer when his PSG contract runs out at the end of the season.

MAJOR CAV-EAT

Club captain and friend of Cavani Cristian Rodriguez told FM Del Sol: "I have the authority to talk about Edi.

"He's about to come to Penarol and I can't say anything else. Call him and ask him."

There were reports that despite PSG having the option to buy Icardi, the striker himself could veto a move.

This was the case when Fiorentina wanted to make Mo Salah's move from Chelsea permanent in 2015 before the Egyptian said no.

However, Inter Milan deny Icardi has the power to stop a transfer and claim it is entirely down to PSG if they want to sign him.

It is clear the San Siro side want to get rid of Icardi after the relationship between the former captain and the club completely and dramatically broke down last year.

He has not always seen eye to eye with new boss Thomas Tuchel in Paris, either, but he is on much better terms with the German than Antonio Conte at his parent club.

On the field, Icardi has been in fine form for the Ligue 1 champions, keeping Cavani out of the team.

He has scored 20 goals in 31 appearances, including a hat-trick in a 6-1 thumping of Saint-Etienne and five in the Champions League group stages.

Should Cate Blanchett be cast as Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor?

In 2011, Madonna directed the box-office bomb W.E., a loosely historical (not really) look at the lives of Wallis Simpson and abdicated King Edward VIII, aka the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Madonna got some of it right – the superficial stuff about Wallis’s clothes and jewelry, and she also cast the film correctly – Andrea Riseborough looks so much like Wallis, and James D’Arcy had that milky-posh look of Edward. Still, the film was not good and it’s not any kind of real history of the couple or their politics (which tended towards fascistic). I would be completely on board for a real, authentic historical drama about Wallis and Edward and their marriage and all of that. And we might get it, at some point. With Cate Blanchett as Wallis?! I could see that too.

With Meghan having moved back to Los Angeles, Hollywood is preparing to dramatise the story of another U.S. divorcee who lured her husband away from the Royal Family. Author Anna Pasternak has sold the film rights to her biography of Wallis Simpson, The American Duchess, to Tinseltown production company The Gotham Group. Cate Blanchett is to be approached about playing the Duchess of Windsor.

‘It’s rather thrilling as they made me a really generous offer,’ says Anna, the great-niece of Doctor Zhivago author Boris Pasternak. ‘Personally, I think Damian Lewis would be wonderful as Wallis’s husband.’

The Duke of Windsor caused the 1936 abdication crisis when he gave up the throne to marry Wallis.

‘Now Meghan has moved back to Hollywood, never has it been timelier to consider the fate of the original American duchess,’ Pasternak says. ‘As both could attest, life has always been difficult for women marrying into the Royal Family.’

[From The Daily Mail]

Wallis was a million times more scandalous (and problematic) than Meghan ever was. Wallis was banging other dudes while she was “seeing” Edward, and one of her lovers was a Nazi! Maybe that was a smear on Wallis after the fact, but there is evidence that she was (pre-war) lovers with a Nazi official named Joachim von Ribbentrop in London, and that she passed along information to help the Nazis. All Meghan ever did was eat some avocados and exist as a biracial woman.

Anyway, this post is truly some vintage tea mixed with a dreamcasting situation. Plus I just like looking at Wallis’s lowkey wedding gown! I think Cate Blanchett is a good choice for Wallis (as was Andrea, frankly). I don’t really think Damian Lewis would be the best choice for Edward though? Damian is too sexy to play Edward. They need someone more *pinched* and posh. Tobias Menzies, maybe? Remember The King’s Speech, where Colin Firth brilliantly played King George VI? Firth wasn’t the first choice for that role – originally, they wanted Paul Bettany. Bettany would be a good Edward too.

Duffy finally feels 'safe’ after cutting off hair and moving 5 times

Warning: this article contains details experience of sexual assault.

Duffy shared details behind her horrific rape ordeal, which resulted in her cutting off her hair and moving house five times out of fear of her attacker.

In a lengthy 3,000-word essay, titled The 5th House, uploaded to her website on Sunday night, the singer said she was drugged on her birthday and submitted to four weeks of assault, having been flown to another country.

In the aftermath, Duffy withdrew from life and explained she didn’t tell her family or friends as she’d ‘become estranged from all’. At one stage, Duffy said her hair became so tangled she cut it off.

The 35-year-old wrote: ‘I would not see someone, a physical soul, for sometimes weeks and weeks and weeks at a time, remaining alone.

‘I would take off my pyjamas and throw them in the fire and put on another set. My hair would get so knotted from not brushing it, as I grieved, I cut it all off.’

Explaining to readers why she decided to speak after keeping the horrendous experience to herself for so long, Duffy wrote how she’d ‘fled’, moving several times out of fear – and now she finally feels safe.

‘It took so long for me to speak because after I was raped and held captive, I fled,’ she detailed.

‘I moved five times in the immediate three years after, never feeling safe from the rapist, I was on the run for so long.’

She added: ‘I found somewhere to live, the 5th house, it was not as confined as the other houses, where I grieved silently, in townhouses or apartments.

‘This place I would spend solitary years to find the stability to recover, I had stopped running and relocating. I felt he could not find me in the 5th house, I felt safe. I feel safe now.’

Duffy revealed someone had threatened to reveal her story, which forced her to tell police about the ordeal.

She wrote of the times she’d opened up to authorities about the assault, which forced her to retreat from the spotlight and not release music: ‘Once someone threatened to “out” my story and I had to tell a female police officer what information the person held about me, and why the blackmail was so frightening.

‘The second incident was when three men tried to enter my house as intruders, I told the second female officer about the rape then also.

‘The identity of the rapist should be only handled by the police, and that is between me and them.’

Last month Duffy shared an Instagram message in which she told fans what had happened to her, explaining why she’d not been seen for a lengthy period.

After sharing a song with Jo Whiley to be played on BBC Radio 2, the Warwick Avenue singer said this week she ‘owes it to herself’ to release a body of work once again.

Mike Tyson admits he once offered a zookeeper $10,000 to fight a silverback gorilla

Mike Tyson has admitted that he once offered a zookeeper $10k to fight a silverback gorilla.

The former heavyweight champion of the world is a known animal lover and recently made the news discussing his past owning exotic animals, staking his claim as America’s original ‘Tiger King’.

However, Tyson seemingly has less love for gorillas than big cats as he has revealed how in the late 1980s he once told a zookeeper he wanted to climb in a cage and fight a silverback.

Sharing the full story, not just the headlines

Fortunately, the zookeeper in question declined his offer.

“I paid a worker at New York’s zoo to re-open it just for me and Robin [Givens, his ex-wife],” Tyson once told The Sun.

“When we got to the gorilla cage there was one big silverback gorilla there just bullying all the other gorillas.

“They were so powerful but their eyes were like an innocent infant.

“I offered the attendant $10,000 to open the cage and let me smash that silverback’s snot box. He declined.”

With big cats back in the news thanks to the runaway success of Netflix documentary Tiger King, Tyson has admitted that he regrets his history of owning exotic animals.

Netflix’s seven-part documentary series has provided a welcome distraction to those in lockdown during the global coronavirus pandemic, quickly becoming the source of an endless number of memes on social media.

The documentary charts the demise of Joseph Maldonado-Passage, also known as ‘Joe Exotic’, the eponymous ‘Tiger King’ currently serving a federal prison sentence on two counts of murder for hire.

Tyson, 53, is among those to have seen the documentary and has admitted that he was “wrong” for keeping two tigers at his Las Vegas mansion years ago.

“I was foolish,” Tyson said last week, on an Instagram Live with Fat Joe.

“There’s no way you can domesticate these cats 100 percent. No way that’s going to happen. They’ll kill you by accident, especially when you’re playing rough with them, you’re punching them back. They get hyped up, hit you back and you’re dead.

“I’m just happy I educated myself. I was doing the wrong shit. I shouldn’t have had them in my house, believing they were domesticated. I was wrong.”

Pink and her son went through ‘a roller coaster’ in recovering from coronavirus

View this post on Instagram

Two weeks ago my three-year old son, Jameson, and I are were showing symptoms of COVID-19. Fortunately, our primary care physician had access to tests and I tested positive. My family was already sheltering at home and we continued to do so for the last two weeks following the instruction of our doctor. Just a few days ago we were re-tested and are now thankfully negative. It is an absolute travesty and failure of our government to not make testing more widely accessible. This illness is serious and real. People need to know that the illness affects the young and old, healthy and unhealthy, rich and poor, and we must make testing free and more widely accessible to protect our children, our families, our friends and our communities. In an effort to support the healthcare professionals who are battling on the frontlines every day, I am donating $500,000 to the Temple University Hospital Emergency Fund in Philadelphia in honor of my mother, Judy Moore, who worked there for 18 years in the Cardiomyopathy and Heart Transplant Center. Additionally, I am donating $500,000 to the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Emergency COVID-19 Crisis Fund. THANK YOU to all of our healthcare professionals and everyone in the world who are working so hard to protect our loved ones. You are our heroes! These next two weeks are crucial: please stay home. Please. Stay. Home.❤️

When we last talked about Pink, she had given herself a haircut while drunk. In her Instagram video, she encouraged everyone to “Stay safe! Stay home! Cut your own hair! Screw it!” All words to live by, especially now (though haircuts should only be given while sober). While Pink looked relaxed in the video, it turns out that she has had reason to be anxious lately: Two weeks ago, Pink and her three-year-old son, Jameson, were diagnosed with COVID-19.

Pink talked about how scary the experience was during an Instagram Live chat with her friend, author Jen Pastiloff:

Singer-songwriter Pink’s 3-year-old son kept her up at night praying because he had “the worst of it” after they both caught the coronavirus, the artist has revealed. . . .

Pink said that both she and Jameson “have been really, really sick” but are doing better now.

“My 3-year-old, Jameson, has had the worst of it,” she said during the stream, which was part of a “Chat and Feed” series to raise money for people in need. “I’ve had many nights where I’ve cried and I’ve never prayed more in my life.”

“At one point I heard myself saying, ‘I thought they promised us our kids would be OK,’” the songstress added. “And it’s not guaranteed. There’s no one that is safe from this.”

The tot’s symptoms, Pink said, included “a fever for three weeks and diarrhea and then constipation and then throwing up and pale and listless and lethargic and all the things that scare the bejeezus out of you as a mama.”

“He still, three weeks later, has a 100 temperature,” she said. “It’s been a roller coaster. It’s been a different roller coaster for both of us.”

[From Page Six]

Pink posted on Friday about their experience, saying that both she and Jameson were tested again, and both are negative for the virus now. Here’s what she wrote and her Instagram photo is above:

I hope it’s finally starting to sink in for people who have downplayed the threat of the novel coronavirus that everyone is at risk. As Pink wrote in her Instagram post, the illness “affects the young and old, healthy and unhealthy, rich and poor “. Miraculously, Pink’s husband, Carey Hart, and eight-year-old daughter, Willow, didn’t get sick. I hope that they continue to be healthy, and that Jameson feels 100% again soon.
