Gogglebox legend shares heartbreaking news of sisters death as fans send support

Gogglebox star Sandra Martin has been inundated with love and support from fans after she revealed the heartbreaking news that her sister had died.

Sandra was one of the original Gogglebox stars who appeared on the show from season one until 2016 alongside her pal Sandi Bogle.

Well known to viewers for her loud personality and cheeky TV commentaries, Sandra was a firm favourite among the cast until Sandi made the decision to quit the show in 2016, with Sandra herself following shortly after.

Although she hasn’t been on screens for a number of years now, Sandra is still a popular figure on social media, with many fans continuing to follow her antics as she updates her followers on different aspects of life.

While many of her updates are largely upbeat, Sandra was prompted to share a far more poignant post this week, when she announced the sad death of her sister Jennifer.

Sharing pictures of herself and Jennifer, Sandra wrote a short but succincent message that read: "My sister Jennifer has passed away”.

Immediately after the post was shared, fans raced to express their condolences to the former Channel 4 star, with many sending their warmest wishes to Sandra and her family.

"So sorry for your loss. Peace to you and your family,” wrote one fan.

A second fan then added: "Ohh I am so sorry to hear this Sandra.”

Before a third commented: "So sorry for your loss what a beautiful soul rest in paradise beautiful."

Earlier this year, Sandra reflected on her time on Gogglebox as she revealed she had been paid more than her cast-mates in a surprising behind the scenes admission.

The extra money was because she was “making the show” according to the star, yet despite earning some extra cash, Sandra admitted she had spent the money on regular takeaways and partying.

The star also revealed she had regularly leant money to her friends that needed some extra cash to make ends meet.

Speaking to The Sun to mark the 10th anniversary of Gogglebox, Sandra said: "I got more than everybody else because everybody else was working, but I was on benefits, and I was the best one that was making the show.

“I got the contract, and they paid my rent, council tax, TV licence, electricity, gas, all the bills you need. That left me with about £500 a week to do what I wanted – hair, taxis, nails, takeaways."

Sandra’s admission was far from the first time she had opened up about her salary on the show, as she previously told Loose Women in 2018: "To be honest I didn't get help.”

“Money was squandered. My friends in the community, I know a lot of people, they needed food for their children. I've got four kids, of course, I'm going to give them a grand. I didn't know what to do with it."
